Coverage Overview
Fire and fire damage
The insurance covers damage caused by fire, lightning strikes, explosions, or short circuits in the summer house’s fixed installations and major appliances. It also includes consequential damages related to fire—for example, water damage caused during firefighting efforts.
Other building damage
Covers damage caused by, for example, theft, vandalism, storms, heavy rain, thawing, or frozen burst pipes and installations. It also includes damage to glass and sanitary fixtures as well as other unforeseen incidents. Additionally, the coverage includes liability insurance and legal assistance in private disputes.
Fungi, insects, and bedbugs
The coverage applies to damage caused by wood-destroying fungi, insects, or bedbugs that weaken the wood's load-bearing capacity or cause destruction. The insurance includes bedbug extermination carried out by an authorized and Environmental Protection Agency-approved pest control company. It covers:
- Documented loss of rental income for up to 30 days in connection with bedbug extermination (see section 1.7.2)
- Expenses for pest control at the insured property as well as compensation for temporary rental loss during the same period.
Rot damage
Covers rot damage in hidden wooden structures where the wood has lost its load-bearing capacity. This can include joists under wooden floors or parts of the roof structure that have not been accessible for maintenance.
Pipe damage
Includes costs for repairing and locating leaks in hidden installations—such as water, heating, gas, oil, and drainage pipes, as well as hidden electrical and heating cables within the building.
Service line
Covers damage to external underground cables and pipes that carry water, heating, gas, oil, wastewater, and electricity to and from the building. The coverage applies to the lines for which you, as the owner, are responsible for maintenance—that is, those connecting the property to the public main lines.
Contents Protection
Covers damage to the fixed contents in the summer house caused by, for example, fire, electrical damage, burglary, theft, robbery, vandalism, water damage, storms, and spoiled food in refrigeration and freezer units.
A robotic lawn mower is considered regular private contents and is covered—even outside the residence period—but only from April 1 to October 31.
You choose the insured amount for the contents yourself.
Extended water damage
The coverage takes effect if water enters the house for reasons other than cloudbursts or thawing—such as rising groundwater or sewage water in the basement. It also includes intrusion of drifting snow or water from the roof, as well as water leakage caused by covered damage to pipes and service lines.
Tenant damage
Protects against damage, vandalism, and theft caused by individuals who rent or borrow your summer house—covering both the building and the contents.
